Dressing a Guide Bar
1. Start by removing the bar from the saw and wiping it free
of dirt and sawdust (be careful of the rail edges, they can
be razor sharp!).
2. Using a flat file, file the burrs off the outer edges of
the bar rails. File from the outside of the bar in towards the
center until all the burrs are completely removed.
3. Next mount the bar in bench vice or clamp the bar to a bench,
making sure that the dressing tool guide will clear.
4. Stand at the mounting end of the bar and ensuring that the
bar dresser is square to the rails, draw the dressing tool towards
you. Continue dressing until the rails are square and free of
any wear.
5. Repeat steps 4&5 for the other side of the bar.
6. Remove the bar from the vice and clean the grooves using
a bar groove cleaner.
7. Remove any old grease from the nose sprocket bearing with
a spray degreaser, and re-grease the bearing. |
